Using HSA / FSA / HRA Funds
Using your HealthEquity for session with Delanie Mann LMT
Some clients can use their Health Savings Account (HSA), Flexible Spending Account (FSA), or Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA) card to pay for sessions with me.
These accounts can cover Therapeutic Bodywork when it is prescribed for a medical condition.
This page explains what you need to do before booking.
Step 1: You will need a Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN)
Massage and bodywork are only eligible when a medical provider states they are needed to treat a specific condition.
Your LMN must include:
your diagnosis (example: chronic neck pain, low back pain, muscle spasm, injury recovery)
a statement that massage/bodywork is medically necessary
the frequency recommended (example: 1–2 sessions per month)
the duration of the recommendation (example: 6 months)
You can request this from:
your primary care provider
your chiropractor
your physical therapist
a specialist
Most providers are familiar with LMNs and can complete one quickly.
Step 2: Bring or upload your LMN before your first session
You can:
upload it during online intake
bring a copy to your first appointment
email it to me ahead of time
I do not contact your provider or request documentation on your behalf.
Step 3: How payment works
Once you have an LMN, you may:
use your HSA/FSA/HRA card at checkout
OR
pay out of pocket and submit your receipt for reimbursement
Both options are allowed.
Step 4a: What I provide
I will give you a detailed receipt that includes:
my name and business name
my license number
date of service
session length
service title & description
amount paid
This is all HealthEquity and similar programs require from me.
Step 4b: What I do not provide
To keep my practice clear and regulated; including my scope of practice, I do not:
diagnose conditions
bill insurance
communicate with your provider
submit claims for you
write letters of medical necessity
I do not reverse charges or reimburse payments if a client’s HSA/FSA/HRA claim is denied. All payments are final at the time of service.
Your medical provider handles the LMN.
You handle your own submissions and reimbursements.
Common questions
Does the service title “Therapeutic Bodywork” work for HSA/FSA/HRA?
Yes. The IRS allows manual therapy performed by a licensed massage therapist when medically necessary. The title does not affect eligibility.
Will my claim be denied?
Not if you have a valid LMN and submit the receipt. Without an LMN, claims are usually denied.
Can I use my card for relaxation or wellness sessions?
No. These accounts only cover medically necessary treatment.
Summary
To use your HSA/FSA/HRA with me, you will need:
A Letter of Medical Necessity from your provider
A copy of that letter on file
A valid HSA/FSA/HRA card or the ability to submit receipts
Once those steps are complete, you are welcome to book.
